Known for their poetic, though-provoking, and introspective lyrics, Mexican alternative rock band Enjambre released their ninth album, Daños Luz, on March 12. The album is structured to guide listeners on a journey through Enjambre’s past, present, and future.

The album opens with the ticking keys of the piano and the distorted voice of Luis Humberto Navejas, Enjambre’s lead singer, on “Desfaces.” This is until the drums and guitar kick in, creating a very nostalgic sound. To add on to the latter, lyrics like “No olvidemos el quién soy” tell us to hold on to oneself, despite everything ahead of us.

“Angustias” is led by voice, drum, and bass, while a high-pitched violin melody accompanies the guitar. “Vida en el Espectro” continues the theme of nostalgia, with the guitars creating a garage-rock sound that makes it hard not to reminisce about bands like The Strokes. Navejas’s high, vulnerable voice blends well with the sentimental theme throughout. This song highlights the faults of the modern era, technology, false realities, and social media. It’s a call to go back to a time when technology was but a whisper.

“Errante” is one of the few songs that doesn’t have any pressure; it’s a “sit-back and relax” type of tune and serves as a reflection song, a self-discovery of who we are or want to be. The protagonist acknowledges with guilt using lyrics like, “Porque algo malo he de estar haciendo.”

“La Diferencia” is a tropical melody, mixed with a soft piano. The narration reads as a self-confession, overwhelmed by not being with the one that they love, missing and longing for those special memories that only they could provide. Now, due to heartache and heartbreak, they are “La Differencia.”

“Vivos” separates itself from the rest as an acoustic song. It is a love letter about cherishing life and everything in it. To not let time pass us by, it urges us to remain connected, despite the overwhelming challenges life may present us.

“Vinculo” recalls the link we have with our loved ones, and how it can transcend time and space, as a bond that surpasses everything. The lyric “vínculo sin eras” describes a link so strong it would survive any era, any one, and anything.

“Juguete” has a distorted bass and tells a story of one’s battle with depression, a contradictory relationship between an individual and their struggles with oneself. “Mente Adolescente” has punk-rock vibes that perfectly capture an era and time when punk was so prominent.

After punk-rock comes “Marioneta,” a slow-down tune. Melancholic, somber, and reflective written all over it, a call back to the acoustic tune, “Errante.” It’s a powerful song about tragedy, despair, and creation.

Lastly, to tie everything together, “El Regalo” recalls forgiveness and the emotional ties it brings with it. Another vulnerable song, as the narrator tries to forget a person, but instead lingers in their mind, long after the separation took place. This song reminds us of how difficult it is to let go and how it ultimately is an act of love.

In their 25th year, Enjambre continues to hone in on their musical legacy, as evident with this new album and the ways it blends together every era the band has already gone through and what they hope to become.
